Date: May 3-5th 2024
Where: Sly Park Group Campground
Camping Option for Fri & Sat Night
Mountain Adventure Day is held each Spring at Sly Park in Camino. Scout families are invited to come for the day or stay for the whole weekend. Pack 454 has a tradition of celebrating the past year of scouting together and recognizing scouts as they begin their journey toward their next rank. Scouts will participate in a pack hike, crafts, games, lunch and closing ceremonies.
When you get close to arriving at Sly Park Reservoir — you DO NOT want to wait in line at the check-in kiosk (as you would typically enter for most of the campground areas if you’ve been there before). Instead, you are going to pass the main entrance and continue on Sly Park Rd. until you can turn onto Mormon Emigrant Trail. This road will begin taking you around the backside of the reservoir and you will pass over a section of the dam. Our site is GROUP SITE #5 and is located near the Sly Park Event Center.
If you are only coming for Mountain Adventure Day activities (not camping) we ask that you please park in the overflow parking area outlined on the map and walk in to Group Site #5. If you are arriving Saturday morning to camp please either arrive early to unpack/setup your camping supplies or plan to save this for after the conclusion of our adventure day activities, as we will need parents actively engaged and involved for all activities. There is a maximum number of 15 vehicles allowed at the campsite so we may need to have some people move cars to overflow parking if necessary. Our group camp consists of one large fire ring, bbq, picnic tables, piped water/spigots, vault toilets, and horseshoe pit. There is no electricity, RV hookups, or cement pads. We do have easy access to the lake from our site, but water will not be involved in adventure day activities. If you choose to access the water during your family camping time, please take appropriate safety precautions.
All scouts should be dressed in uniform for Mountain Adventure Day and have their 6 Cub Scout essentials (water, snacks, sun protection, first aid supplies, flashlight and safety whistle).
As always, we may adjust or make changes on the fly depending on circumstances (ex: weather conditions).
As a fun way to close the day, we are planning to hold a graduation ceremony where each scout will be recognized for their achievements over this past year and “graduate” to begin working on their next rank. During this ceremony, we will award the scouts the appropriate neckerchief that they will be wearing next year.
If you are camping, here is a General Camping Packing List you may reference when planning for the trip.
