Dens are divided by rank/grades. Meetings are generally held once a month and provide your scout with opportunities to complete adventures, enjoy various planned activities, learn new skills, and have great fun while earning their grade level rank. While parental attendance is not required at Den Meetings (except for Lions and Tigers), it is certainly encouraged and always welcomed! Some Den meetings will require parent participation. Keep in touch with your scout's Den Leader so that you will know what activities are taking place and can track the progress your child is making.
Once a month all Dens come together for a Pack Meeting, which all Cub Scouts and their families are encouraged to attend. Each month has a theme and accompanying breakout activities. It is a time for the family to get information on upcoming activities and share in the Scouting spirit. Be sure to attend and join in the excitement while watching your Scout advance! We encourage scouts to wear their uniform.
We ask that all Scout families volunteer some of their time to help both their Den and the Pack in providing fun, adventure, and guidance for our Cub Scouts. Learn more.
Pack 454 generally has two camp out opportunities each year, Fall Family Camp and Mountain Adventure Day. Your family will have the chance to camp for the weekend or can attend only the daytime activities. If camping, you will need to bring the equipment you will need to enjoy the camp-out: tent, sleeping bags, lanterns, bug spray etc.
The Raingutter Regatta is a racing event for Cub Scouts that is the sailboat equivalent of a Derby. Scouts use pool noodles to create boats or The Official Raingutter Regatta Trimaran kit depending on the year. The race is scheduled during one of the Pack Meetings. Scouts compete until one sailboat is crowned the winner!
The pinewood derby is one of the most popular and successful family activities in Cub Scouting. Pinewood derby cars are small wooden models that Cub Scouts make with the help of their families. Then they race the cars in competition which includes prizes for speed and design creativity. The cars are powered by gravity and run down a track. The Pack provides the kits along with rules and instruction for design and competition. The race is scheduled during one of the Pack Meetings, typically in January.
Each year, Cub Scouts celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the BSA, on February 8, 1910, by having a Blue and Gold Banquet. The event includes treats and activities. The Blue & Gold is usually held in March.
The Arrow of Light bridging ceremony is traditionally held at our Blue & Gold Banquet to celebrate our 5th grade WEBELOS 2 Scouts who earn the rank of Arrow of Light and "cross-over" to the troop level of Scouts BSA. This is one of our most honored traditions as we award Cub Scouting's highest honor to our Scouts.
All other cub scouts will attend a rank advancement ceremony at our Mountain Adventure Day to mark the completion of their experience in that years grade and graduate into the next year. Earning rank advancement, relative to each school grade is not required (eg-Arrow of Light, Wolf, Bear, etc.), but is encouraged as one of the methods of the scouting experience. A scout works at their own pace at home or during Den & Pack outings and meetings, under the supervision and guidance of a parent and in coordination with the Den leader. As adventure requirements are completed, parents can record their Scout's accomplishments online in Scoutbook at https://scoutbook.scouting.org/ or simply report to their Den leader in order to earn awards for their completed adventures.
This is a brief video which demonstrates what it looks like when a parent or Den leader logs into Scoutbook and records their Scout's accomplishments.
